Yesterday, we reported about Playtonic Games rumored to be working on a new Banjo-Kazooie game and in the middle of an acquisition process from Xbox Game Studios, which was something Xbox fans were looking forward to happening at X019.
However, the developer of the Yooka-Laylee franchise has just issued an statement to debunk those rumors, remarking its will to stay independent despite all the clues were pointing at something different from that.
The team has mentioned that this is “speculation” and that “we aren’t working on a new Banjo-Kazooie game, and we remain an independent studio,” although they’re sad to provide news that fans might not like at all.
“While we would love to work with the bear and the bird again, that ball isn’t in our court,” Playtonic acknowledged, saying that they would love to build a new Banjo game but that it’s a decision that only Microsoft and Rare have to make.
“We are keen to continue progressing as a studio, carrying the experience of games we worked on, old and new, to create new characters and adventures for you to (hopefully) love,” they added.
“We’re sorry if this isn’t what you wanted to hear from us, at first, we found it amusing that Ed Bryan’s bag is being used as serious ‘evidence’, but we reckon it wouldn’t be fair if we didn’t set the record straight,” the team also added about one of the clues we’ve mentioned.
So, that’s it: Playtonic Games is not joining Xbox Game Studios and, most importantly, is not working on a new Banjo-Kazooie game. Are you disappointed about that same as I am now? Let us know in the comments.
