Microsoft has shared first sales data for Halo: The Master Chief Collection, which got extended on Xbox One and debuted on PC thanks to the release of Halo Reach, a remastered version of Bungie’s Xbox 360 first-person shooter cult.

According to the platform holder, “nearly 3 million players” jump onto The Master Chief Collection for PC and Xbox One “during launch week” of Halo Reach, and this made for “a monumental launch (…) thanks to the amazing Halo community as well as a host of all-new players experiencing the Halo universe for the very first time.”

Other noteworthy milestones include:

  • #1 top-selling game on Steam during launch week and the highest-ranking debut for an Xbox Game Studios title on Steam
  • #1 most-watched game on Twitch during launch day

The Xbox owner also noted that Steam’s customer reviews are “very positive” out of around 35,000 comments left by fans, which helped boost sales and make a good impression right on launch for the game.

Microsoft’s strategy is to bring all of the Halo: The Master Chief Collection games on Steam and its store by 2020, with the first new game being Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, while Halo Reach was the only additional title to be worked on for Xbox One since all the remasters are already included in the console version of the MCC.
