Two powerhouse companies are joining forces to create a brand-new Call of Duty mobile game.
Activision and Tencent Holdings Limited will deliver a free-to-play Call of Duty mobile title in China, according to Business Wire. The new game is set to provide “the definitive first-person action experience in an original, all-new Call of Duty mobile game, bringing together a collection of beloved Call of Duty characters, maps, modes and weapons from across the franchise.”
Tencent has several subsidiaries that are well known for internet and gaming-related services, including Epic Games (the developer of Fortnite), Riot Games (the developer of League of Legends), and Supercell (a mobile game company known for Clash Royale and Clash of Clans). The company’s “leading mobile studio is spearheading development” of the upcoming Call of Duty mobile game.
“We’re working closely with one of Tencent’s top mobile studios, Timi, to develop a fun and original Call of Duty experience that delivers superb gameplay and mechanics to mobile players,” said Call of Duty EVP and GM Rob Kostich. “Call of Duty has been the leading first person action experience around the globe for years and seeing that come to life on the mobile platform has been really exciting.”
Tencent intends to use a variety of features from previous Call of Duty titles in the impending mobile game that will be “tailored to meet the interests and playstyles of mobile players in China,” according to Tencent’s SVP Steven Ma. In addition, Ma said that the game’s title will be revealed soon and it’ll be released in China “in a few months.”
