The long-awaited sequel is coming together nicely.
As we anticipated with our previous report, Age of Empires 4 got an official gameplay reveal today, after spending a good deal of time in development. And fans weren’t disappointed by what they received, either.
In the trailer, posted below, there’s a glimpse of gameplay coming to the long-awaited sequel. This includes being able to move around citizens, soldiers and even structures around your world, based on different historical eras. Want to set it during the Roman Empire? You can do that. Samurai-based Japan? Absolutely. Even the British redcoats can make a comeback in this particular story.
While building structures, you’ll continue collecting resources to keep your world flourishing. This includes crafting defenses against threats to your empire. Along the way, you’ll be able to create more cunning soldiers, with survival tactics and new abilities, and buildings structured around a series of tech trees.
You’ll need to keep a close eye on things, though. Structures and people come with advantages and disadvantages that could cost you if you don’t balance things carefully.
There’s no release date for Age of Empires IV, but Microsoft should have more news in 2020. In the meantime fans can enjoy the Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, which got a surprise release today. You can watch the launch trailer here and see what players can expect from the reborn classic adventure. It’s available on Windows PC, along with the Xbox Game Pass.
