A teaser clip posted by the Battlefield Twitter account reveals what appear to be WWII specific flags for the teams in the score bar. A WWII return has been rumored for several years and it seems that Battlefield V will finally return to the franchise to its roots.
It’s only mere days before the reveal event for Battlefield V and DICE has decided to tease us yet again with a very brief clip posted on the official Battlefield Twitter account.
Shhh… not long now.
Tune in for the #Battlefield V reveal on May 23: https://t.co/kpTnOyxuxr pic.twitter.com/zzIwGi0Y1w

The clip itself doesn’t seem to give away that much upon first glance, but keen observers will note that the score bar at the top of the screen holds several clues to the game’s setting. The score bar denotes the current standing of the two teams in the franchise’s classic Conquest mode. That’s not a surprise as this game mode has been present in every iteration of Battlefield. The flags for the teams, however, appear to confirm the rumors that DICE is taking the franchise back to its roots in World War II.
Watch the clip again, this time on YouTube, which doesn’t crop videos into an inexplicable square format (seriously, why, Twitter?):
World War II has been requested as a setting for the Battlefield for many years and DICE seems to have finally obliged. Of course, those who wanted a return to Vietnam might feel slighted after assuming the V stood for Vietnam. Personally, I’m looking forward to some quality story telling. Fortunately, unlike Call of Duty, Battlefield V has been confirmed to include a singleplayer campaign, and after the excellent effort put forth in Battlefield 1, I’m excited.
We’ll all find out more about Battlefield V during its official reveal on May 23rd.
