Data has been released that lists down the top mobile games of the decades.
Smartphones have become more of a commodity rather than a luxury, ever since the mobile video game market flourished. People now have the power of a computer in their hands, capable of playing games that were once considered to be console or PC quality. Who would have guessed that we would be able to play a game like Fortnite on our phones?
With the mobile market being so massive now, it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that many big corporations decided to take advantage of this and pump out new mobile games that can monetize people’s habits. Even Nintendo, who seemed to be against the idea of mobile games for a while, decided to give in and released massively monetized mobile titles like Fire Emblem Heroes.
The end of the decade is now upon us, and the mobile data and analytics firm App Annie was able to calculate the most prominent mobile games of the decade. GamesIndustry.biz shared a report that explored the App Annie’s information. The stats tally the games that were released from 2010-2019.
In a decade which saw the release of Pokémon Go, Candy Crush Saga, Clash of Clans, and, most recently, Call of Duty: Mobile, which of these titles came out on top?
Clash of Clans was listed as the top mobile game of the decade in terms of revenue. Monster Strike and Candy Crush Saga are the second and third top games, respectively. Pokémon Go is eighth in top games in revenue, which could be considered a shock considering how much of a phenomenon the title was at launch and continues to be. But then again, Clash of Clans and Candy Crush are more heavily monetized compared to Pokémon Go, which could explain its relatively low status on the list.
To give a better understanding of how much revenue these games made, Pokémon Go recently revealed it has earned three billion USD in lifetime revenue.
The Fate/Grand Order is the number one mobile title of 2019 by revenue. Grand Order is a spin-off title from the Fate/Stay Night multimedia franchise, which began as a Japanese visual novel before being adapted into a series of popular animes. Not only was it the top title by revenue in 2019, but it was also fifth overall in the last decade, surpassing other popular games like Pokémon Go or Clash Royale.
