The private beta for Blackout, the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 battle royale mode, will be begin on Sep. 10 on PlayStation 4, according to Activision and Treyarch.
Possibly the most anticipated game mode in Call of Duty history, Blackout will feature Solo, Duo, and Quads modes similar to other battle royale games such as Fortnite.
Little information other than that has been released, however. Since its confirmation during the Black Ops 4 reveal event in May, Blackout details have been few and far between. The exact map size, player count, and other pertinent details have remained unconfirmed by Treyarch even with less than two months until launch.
Battle royale games have arguably become the hottest game genre in the world over the past year, with Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds taking over. And while there’s no guarantee that Blackout will become a staple in the genre, it will almost certainly attract players to at least try out CoD’s BR mode.
As is the case with nearly all Call of Duty content, PS4 players will get the chance to try Blackout first. If the private multiplayer beta earlier in the month is anything to go by, it’s likely the first weekend of the Blackout beta will be exclusive to PlayStation 4, with Xbox One and PC players receiving access the following weekend.
