World of Warcraft players can now purchase special 15th anniversary alabaster mounts without waiting for the collector’s edition.
As part of its World of Warcraft 15th Anniversary celebration, Blizzard has added a new set of mounts to game’s store. The 15th Anniversary Alabaster mounts look like sleek, stone-carved versions of the classic Horde and Alliance flying mounts.
Both mounts will be available on Blizzard’s store for $25 each. The mounts are accessible to any character of the corresponding faction on the account they’re purchased with. They will automatically adjust to match the highest movement speed that the character they’re used by has attained, and if a character hasn’t learned the flying mount skill yet, they’ll still be useable as ground mounts.
The new Alabaster mounts are also available as part of the World of Warcraft 15th Anniversary Collector’s Edition, which launches in October and also includes bonuses such as a statue of Ragnaros and a set of art prints. Players who buy an Alabaster mount now and then purchase the new 15th Anniversary Collector’s Edition by March 21, 2020, will receive a $25 credit to their Blizzard account to cover the cost of the mount.
Of course, the new mounts and collector’s edition aren’t the biggest things planned to commemorate the behemoth MMO’s anniversary. Later this month, the highly anticipated WoW Classic launches, bringing players back to what at least some segment of the game’s fans sees as Azeroth’s glory days. Following stress tests, Blizzard has been at work squashing bugs but has also had to remind fans that some of the supposed bugs reported by testers were just quirks of the original 2004 release that would be present in the final version.
World of Warcraft first launched on November 23, 2004, so there’s still some time to go until the game’s actual anniversary date. Given the importance of the occasion to Blizzard, players will likely have more to look forward to closer to that date.
