YouTuber LongSensation, an informed insider when it comes to Call of Duty stuff (he was among the very first players who knew the Modern Warfare soft reboot this year), has shared some exciting details about Call of Duty 2020, which would be a follow up of the Black Ops series.

We have already learned from Kotaku’s Jason Schreier that next year’s CoD would be Black Ops once again. This choice was due to technical issues met at the teams at Raven Software and Sledgehammer Games which were working on their original title in the franchise.

Now, we’re learning that Activision and Treyarch are deciding whether it should be called Call of Duty: Black Ops V or Call of Duty: Black Ops. The latter being an essential hint at the possible nature of a soft reboot similarly to Modern Warfare. It would make sense considering that Black Ops 4 ditched a story campaign and Black Ops 3 had wrapped the original trilogy arc up.

LongSensation claims that the game would be set during the Cold War and would cover the entire 40+ years of it, including Vietnam and the Korean War. The title is described “as even more gritty and gruesome than Modern Warfare,” so expect some severe realism in there.

Based on what we’re reading, Call of Duty: Black Ops V would be a massive return to the franchise roots, with a focus on story and a new arc. Perhaps reprising some of the main characters and shaking things up in terms of plot. Also, of course, expect some battle royale of sorts in the vein of Blackout and more ambitious ideas when it comes to multiplayer.
