Destiny 2 players who are looking to grind out this week’s Faction Rally for new gear will be disappointed, as only one new weapon will be available, according to Bungie.

When the Faction Rally went live yesterday, players began to report a lack of new gear from Faction Engrams. Today, Bungie has explained just why that is, and the explanation is something of a head-scratcher.

A post on the Bungie forums explains that five new weapons have been added for Factions in Season 2 of the game, but they will only be available over the course of the entire season, which is set to last another few months.

“In the first Faction Rally of Season 2 (this week), there is a new Auto Rifle available as the Winner’s Offering,” the forum post explained. “No new Faction Weapons are available through Faction Engrams. In the second Faction Rally of the season, the Winner’s Offering is updated to a new weapon. Additionally, the previous Winner’s offering (Auto Rifles) and an additional weapon are added to Faction Engram rewards.”

Faction Rallies are monthly events where players pledge to one of three factions to earn loot, like exclusive weapons and armor sets. Now, though, it appears that the only new piece of gear is the Winner’s Offering, which will cost either 50,000 or 1,000 Glimmer, depending on which faction wins.

Theoretically, a player could wait until the final Faction Rally of Season 2 to play it out and earn all of the new weapons, as opposed to playing this current one.

Both the announcement on Twitter and the forum post itself have been met with resistance, filled with angry replies of players questioning the decision to drip-feed content like this, and wondering what the point of playing this current Faction Rally is.
