Destiny 2 is heading into Year 2 soon. The base game didn’t really land with the splash that Bungie had hoped, with many people considering it a step back from the ground that had been made with The Taken King. For the new Forsaken DLC, Bungie is hoping to once again bottle lightning and give Guardians a reason to feel hope about the future Destiny 2.
A lot was revealed on stream, but of great interest was a new mix of PvP and PvE called Gambit. Two teams compete against each other in separate arenas. They fight hordes of enemies, trying to get to the finish first, and can also interfere with each other’s efforts. There seems to be some decent tactical depth here as well, rather than just two groups attempting to burn everything down as fast as they can.
Triumphs are also back, one of the absolute best aspects of the last year of the original Destiny. The general feeling that the small things you do each day somehow add up to more cannot be understated when it comes to adding value to a game.
Random rolls for weapons will return, which is a great thing in my opinion. Trying to find the perfect roll in the original Destiny was one of my favorite things to do. Weapon slots will be getting switched up, something a lot of the community will be happy to hear. There will also be a bow introduced for people who enjoy some low-tech murder.
Bungie announced a new Annual Pass, which basically covers new content that will be released from Winter 2018 to Summer 2019. They were clear on stream that this is not going to be full DLC, but will give new paths of play for gamers who want them. Forsaken will retail for $39.99, while the inclusion of the Annual Pass will bring the price up to $69.99. Throw in an extra $10 for the Digital Deluxe edition and you’ll get a unique bow ornament, ghost shell, and emblem. The Annual Pass will include three DLCs, the Black Armory in winter of this year, Joker’s Wild next spring, and Penumbra next summer.
During the stream, Bungie talked a lot about wanting to keep plenty of things secret, which means a slow rolling out of information over the coming months. Honestly, I am fine with this. It’s about three months until the release of Forsaken on September 4th, and I don’t mind sitting on a hype train from now until then. I would strongly suggest watching the video of the live stream above, as there is just too much information for me to detail it all here. Things might just be looking up for Destiny 2 fans.
