New details for Digimon Survive, the upcoming Digimon game for PS4 and Nintendo Switch, have been revealed. This is all ahead of the Digimon 2018 Special Meeting event next weekend, which will include more info and livestreams.

New details for Digimon Survive, the upcoming Digimon game for PS4 and Nintendo Switch, have been revealed. This is all ahead of the Digimon 2018 Special Meeting event next weekend, which will include more info and livestreams.

Digimon Survive is a strategy RPG framed within a visual novel. You will control a team of Digimon that will need to mow down every opponent in your way. You begin the game with only the pint-sized Agumon and add more Digimon to your party.

As you progress, the story will be defined by your choices. Some of these choices will be made outside of the ‘Digital World,’ emphasizing the importance of your actions regardless of facing down wide-eyed slime monsters.

The battle system for the game which seems to take inspiration from Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy Tactics. Digimon has long existed in the shadow of Pokémon, Nintendo’s uber-successful monster collection series, but a recent string of more traditional RPG hits, like 2016’s Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth show there is room for the rival monster party to flourish.

Not much is known about Digimon Survive at this time, with more information expected to be revealed during the Digimon 2018 Special Meeting YouTube live-stream on July 29. It is slated to be out in Japan some time next year.

The game has not been confirmed for a Western release at this time but fans can import the game to use on either system. Assuming they have an understanding of the Japanese language.
