Bethesda took to the QuakeCon 2018 keynote today to reveal the first bit of gameplay surrounding Doom Eternal, the latest entry in the classic FPS gaming series, Doom.
Doom Eternal is the sequel to the gory and deliciously violent 2016 reboot. It was originally announced during Bethesda’s E3 2018 press conference. At which point fans only got a very short but very tantalizing look at what was to come.
The Doom Slayer has had a bit of an update this time around, with a set of new armor upgrades and the Ballista, a gun that can spear demons with an “explosive volt” as well as the Super Shotgun. There’s a new system in place as well, called “destructible demons,” which the team spoke at length about before revealing the new trailer.
It looks like the bloody Doom we all know and love, with satisfying shootouts, and plenty of maiming to round things out. They’ve even added a grappling hook.Â
Previously, producer Marty Stratton and creative director Hugo Martin stated that the game would maintain what fans loved about the fast and furious Doom reboot. The Doom Slayer will be more powerful, and up against a staggering amount of enemies. The trailer showed off familiar faces like Pain Elementals, Cacodemons, Imps, Revenants, Arachnotrons, Barons, and Arch-Viles.
This game is taking place on Earth after it’s been overrun by Hell’s forces. They won’t know what hit them.
Doom Eternal is currently without a release date, but we’ll go to hell and back again to get our hands on it. It will be available on PC, XBOX ONE, PS4 and even the Nintendo Switch.
