Microsoft showed off a new gameplay trailer for Psychonauts 2 after announcing that Double Fine has been acquired by Xbox Game Studios.
Microsoft’s E3 press conference kicked off its announcement of studio acquisitions with the news that Double Fine Productions has joined Xbox Game Studios. The report was accompanied by the first gameplay trailer for Psychonauts 2.
Microsoft Studios head Matt Booty introduced Double Fine’s Tim Schafer to make the announcement.
Unfortunately, it didn’t come with a release date for the game, but it did give us a look at some new gameplay. In it, Psychonauts protagonist Raz is shown diving into a new and disturbing mental landscape filled with teeth. We can only assume that this is the mind of the first game’s mad dentist, Dr. Caligosto Loboto.
As has already been revealed, Psychonauts 2 will pick up directly after the conclusion of Psychonauts. The sequel is expected to expand on some of the themes of the original, such as the curse of Raz’s family. It will also include some characters from the first came, including Coach Oleander, Sasha Nein, and Dr. Caligosto Loboto, who we saw in the trailer.
Psychonauts 2 will be available on PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One when it launches, and it will be available on Xbox Game Pass. The game was first announced back in 2015 with the kick-off of its crowdfunding campaign.
