Far Cry 3 Classic Edition is now available to everyone who owns a Far Cry 5 season pass on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and there’s a lot of curiosity to see how it performs on the current-gen consoles right now.

The guys at Digital Foundry have offered a first proper tech analysis of the game, discovering that and even a bit more. It’s worth remembering that the base game runs at 1280×704 on PS3 and Xbox 360, with frame rate dips, and that those dips had already been fixed on Xbox One backward compatibility.

Far Cry 3 Classic Edition Tech Analysis

Looking at the Classic Edition, according to DF, the game comes with Pc highest quality textures, GI, and effects, but nothing has really been “remastered.” There’s a 30fps cap on both the consoles, while PS4 runs it at 1080p and Xbox One at 900p. Xbox One X and PS4 Pro both feature a 1440p resolution.

As for frame rate, base Xbox One struggles after the prologue, even though performances are better than the original. PS4 Pro has minor frame rate issues, too, and doesn’t lock to 30, while Xbox One X does all the time.

Anyway, PS4 Pro is the sole console to feature some kind of AA, with an IQ edge over Xbox One X, which is rather curious considering the specs of the two platforms. Finally, there’s not been any kind of remaster on 2D elements, neither, so the HUD is the same than the original.
