The Shadowbringers expansion has turned out to be much appreciated by long-time fans. Even newcomers to the Final Fantasy XIV world have proven the game has achieved in terms of Metacritic average scores.
As shared by ResetEra users, Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers has managed to grab a 92 out of 100 Metascore on the aggregator. The score makes it the most successful Final Fantasy title since the days of the original Final Fantasy XII, over a decade ago.
That sounds crazy if you consider that Final Fantasy XV has been overall very appreciated both by critics and public. But Shadowbringers is well ahead if you look at the results of other Final Fantasy games on the platform:
- Final Fantasy XII – 86
- Final Fantasy XIII – 83
- Final Fantasy XIII-2 – 79
- Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII – 66
- Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn – 78
- Final Fantasy XV – 81
It’s a huge comeback for a title that was forced to be shut down and re-released as A Realm Reborn back in the day due to massive design flaws and technical issues. It’s an unexpected turn.
Square Enix was able to turn the tables with Final Fantasy XIV. It is reportedly already working on the next expansion for their MMORPG it plans to support for ages.
