We’re now less than a month away from God of War releasing on PS4, and PlayStation has released a new video detailing the cinematography in the game.

The video features God of War directory of cinematography Dori Arazi explaining that the entire game is delivered in a single shot, with no loading screens. It sounds difficult to believe, but it’s real.

“When you combine a sense of documentary with a camera that doesn’t cut, you get a very empathetic point of view to the character,” said Arazi. “It’s such an immersive way to experience the hero’s journey. I don’t think the player will have experienced anything like this before.”

With no loading screens, the game will transition seamlessly between cutscenes and gameplay. The video even shows a look at some of the motion capture actors being shot in real time by an actual camera man, making the game feel like a movie in multiple ways.

In order to make this work, Arazi was behind the camera. Everything needed to be perfect, between the actors, him, and the developers working on turning it into a beautiful game behind the scenes.

“It was a Herculean effort in communication,” said Arazi. “You had a bunch of technical teams, visual teams, and cinematic teams having to work perfectly together to know exactly who’s doing what and when to make sure the player will do exactly the right thing.”

It all comes together on April 20 when God of War releases for the PlayStation 4. If this video is anything to go by, the game could be something special.
