H1Z1 exits Early Access and adds Auto Royale mode today

Daybreak Games’ standalone battle royale title H1Z1 is leaving Steam’s Early Access program today with a special surprise added into the mix.

New game mode Auto Royale will debut alongside H1Z1’s full release, which will feature “arcadey” action, according to H1Z1 General Manager Anthony Castoro. 

Auto Royale puts up to 30 teams of four against each other to battle for vehicular supremacy. Players will rush around the map scrounging for weapons, power-ups, ammo, fuel, and health kits while looking to become the last car standing. 

There are two new vehicles added, the armored recon vehicle (ARV) and the sedan, as well as a swath of different setpieces on the map like oil slicks, ramps, and more. There are also weapons available to help ensure you take out the competition, like the Light Machine Gun, which is only available in Auto Royale. Defensive, evasive, and combative power-ups are there to help turn the tides of battle if you’re in dire need of some outside assistance.

There are some additional features being added to the game for H1Z1’s launch aside from the Auto Royale mode, including the option to choose where to parachute down into at the beginning of a match via heat map, changes to the airdrop system, a mini map, founder’s item in the form of an in-game shirt, and the beginning of the first in-game H1Z1 Season. 

H1Z1 is looking to find its sea legs again as the premiere battle royale title.

After initially splitting the game into two different titles, H1Z1: Just Survive and H1Z1: King of the Kill, those modes eventually merged into just H1Z1.

The game pits up to 150 players against each other in a battle royale where the goal is to be the last player standing. You can try out the full game out now for $19.99 on PC via Steam.
