Blizzard has announced Heroes of the Storm development has been scaled down as the studio is looking into focusing on other priorities.

As a result, the game will receive less updates and with a different frequency in comparison with the current state.

On top of that, esports events have been cancelled as funds will be moved onto different projects, something that Kotaku’s Jason Schreier had already hinted at in the past.

From the looks of it, Activision is pushing for the studio to release more and more monetizable titles over a time span, reducing the scope of post release support in order to do so.

The studio’s been in the middle of a controversy when it dropped a Diablo Immortal mobile announcement back at BlizzCon when everyone was expecting a Diablo 4 teaser.

“Over the past several years, the work of evaluating our development processes and making hard decisions has led to new games and other products that we’re proud of,” Blizzard said.

“We now have more live games and unannounced projects than at any point in the company’s history. We’re also at a point where we need to take some of our talented developers and bring their skills to other projects.

As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to shift some developers from Heroes of the Storm to other teams, and we’re excited to see the passion, knowledge, and experience that they’ll bring to those projects.

This isn’t the first time we’ve had to make tough choices like this. Games like Diablo II, World of Warcraft, StarCraft II, Overwatch, and more would not exist had we not made similar decisions in the past.”

The cadence of the release for new content will change in order to “ultimately, we’re setting up the game for long-term sustainability,” Blizzard added.

Heroes of the Storm has released in 2015 on PC and it’s an all-star MOBA from the makers of World of Warcraft, Diablo, StarCraft and Overwatch.
