It’s been well over 10 years since Kingdom Hearts II was released. There have been a number of spin-off and handheld games since, but anticipation for the next numbered title in the series has always been high.

A few months ago, we got confirmation that Kingdom Hearts III would finally release sometime in 2018, and fans can’t wait to know exactly when. Sadly, this brand new trailer doesn’t have an official release date, but it’s full of nostalgia.

The “Classic Kingdom” trailer shows off a new mini-game inside of Kingdom Hearts III, and it will immediately bring you back to the 1980s and ’90s with its imagery. Growing up in those decades, it was common to have handheld LCD games.

Way before smartphones, the Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation Portable, or even GameBoy, these handheld LCD games had a few buttons, plain graphics of static images, and a very distinct beeping sound when you played it.

The mini-games in Kingdom Hearts III capture the essence of these games greatly. They can’t replace the feeling of being a kid and holding one of these classics, but it looks and sounds pretty true to form.

Fans hope to get an official release date for Kingdom Hearts III in the coming months, maybe even at E3. Many fans won’t believe it’s real until the game finally releases, but it’s starting to feel pretty real as 2018 wears on.
