Co-director Tai Yasue has shared an interesting piece of information that let’s you understand why Kingdom Hearts III got delayed.
According to Yasue, the process got slowed down a lot during the years for a few reasons, and in particular at a certain point of the development Square Enix decided to change the game engine.
“One of the main factors was the decision to switch the game engine to develop the game,” he told Newsweek.
“Our current engine is great in terms of developing a high end AAA title, but because there was a change in technology and work flows, it took some time for the team to adapt and adjust.”
Yasue added he’s very sorry that the studio had to delay the title so many times, but is also convinced that the studio has done its very best to deliver
“I’m truly sorry to have kept everyone waiting for so long! It took a while, but we really wanted to make sure the game met everyone’s expectations.
I hope, more than I’ve hoped for anything else in my 20 years of making games, that you all enjoy it.”
Kingdom Hearts III is releasing January 29, 2019 on PS4 and Xbox One.
