Cross Platform Gaming, is one of the hot topic of discussion nowadays, and now Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling has shared his thoughts on this. Of course, these thoughts relate directly to a game Bowling has been involved with of late, Modern Warfare 3.
The developer was asked about cross platform gaming and its future considering he’s working on a title that’s a huge part of the industry. Call of Duty is a colossal franchise, and should it aim to go down the route of implementing cross platform gaming, then other titles, developers, and publishers will surely follow.

One of MW3’s Developers Explains Why Cross Platform Gaming Isn’t in This Latest Call of Duty
In an intresting interview with Australian Gamer, Robert Bowling was quizzed about Cross Platform Play, and whether Infinity Ward was looking to feature it in their future games. This subject is so important to so many people who enjoy the franchise that it would be impossible to ignore.
To this Robert replied: “We [Infinity Ward] take things one game a time. There’s no Cross platform play in Modern Warfare 3. Right now, we’re completely focused on that [MW3], and we’ll look at it [Cross Platform Play].”
His answer seemed pretty cut and dry, explaining that cross platform play isn’t going to come to Call of Duty in Modern Warfare 3, though it could be something the franchise sees in the future. With this entry being such a big one for the series, fans may be disappointed to hear about the lack of cross platform play.
He further added, “I think it’s something cool that a lot of people are doing well.” Bowling might be referring to Portal 2’s PS3-PC co-op feature which worked perfectly for all, and Valve has now announced that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will feature cross-platform play between PC, PS3, and Mac.
However, we are yet to see a game that put PS3 and Xbox 360 gamers against each other. It’s a real point of contention among many groups of friends, preventing them from being able to play together and enjoy their game without coordinating with each other to purchase it on the same console ahead of its release.
In the future, it may be possible for players to jump into multiplayer servers together regardless of what platform they’ve chosen as their main console. For now though, Call of Duty is sticking in its ways and keeping the player bases separate.
