After 20 years, a new Earthworm Jim is in the works for new upcoming console Amico
Buckle up your spacesuits and prepare for a whole lot of nostalgia. Intellivision Entertainment has announced that after a 20-year hiatus, a new Earthworm Jim game is being worked on, and by the original team.
The original game released in 1994 for the Sega Genesis/Megadrive and the SNES and met with almost cult status for its charming visuals and innovative approach to platforming. Its sequel Earthworm Jim 2 in 1995 also met with high praise, but the series lost much of its appeal when it made a move to 3D in 1999 and hasn’t been seen since.
However, there is a caveat to the new announcement. The new game, likely to go back to its 2D roots, will be exclusive to Intellivision’s new upcoming console the Amico, which is due out in 2020.
It’s likely that this could change in the future if the team see its potential on the current set of home consoles and PC, but for the meantime, you’ll need to invest in the new system if you want fresh Earthworm Jim action.
