New Pokémon games are coming to the Nintendo Switch.
The Pokémon Company announced Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! at a press conference in Tokyo, Japan on May 29. The games will be released on Nov. 16. The Pokémon Company tweeted about the mysterious conference just moments before it was scheduled to begin—there were only whispers of the event before the tweet.
The games will take players back to the Kanto region for a “classic Pokémon journey” in a new format.

Trainers playing Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! can use a handheld Pokéball peripheral to play the game, alongside a joy-con as the main controller. The game will be linked to Pokémon Go, according to The Pokémon Company. Players will also be able to use the device to catch critters in Pokémon Go. Local multiplayer will also be available, which is a welcome feature for families or friends interested in capturing Pokémon together.
The official Pokémon Twitter account also revealed that Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! are based on the Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition that was released in Japan in 1998.
The two Pokémon games have been rumored additions to the Switch since mid-May, when two domain names were registered by Nintendo representatives. Another game, Pokémon Quest for Switch and smartphones, was also announced during the event. The last core RPG games in the Pokémon series were Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon released in November 2017.
It was also revealed that wild Pokémon battles won’t be a part of Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!—but players will reportedly have the ability to battle other trainers. In addition, no online features are planned for Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! at this time.
