Team Ninja has released a gameplay trailer for its upcoming game Nioh 2, along with news of an alpha test starting this Friday.
After quite a while with no news about Nioh 2, Team Ninja released a new gameplay trailer this week, along with the announcement of an upcoming alpha test. The test will run from Friday, May 24 through Thursday, June 6, and is only available on PlayStation 4.
Details on what the test will entail are scarce. There’s no way actually to register for the alpha; you’ll just have to hope you’re one of the players selected if you want in. The developer didn’t say how participants will be selected; we would recommend keeping an eye on the email address associated with your PSN account.
Some PS4 users are invited to take part in the Nioh 2 closed alpha to help gather feedback for the development. To ensure the team can manage the feedback, there are no plans to expand the alpha at the moment, but please keep an eye on our channels for more info in the future. pic.twitter.com/hS1l0rHLFa

A tweet from developer Team Ninja also said that there are no plans to expand the alpha beyond its small initial pool of participants. The tweet does say to keep watching for more information in the future, so there’s a chance that Nioh 2 may be getting more tests later, as the original game did.
Perhaps more exciting — especially for those who aren’t selected for the alpha test — is the gameplay trailer that came along with the announcement. From the looks of it, Nioh 2 seems to be doubling down on some of the elements that made the original so exciting, like its wildly inventive demon enemies and the huge variety of character builds you could make. This time around, your character will even be able to turn into a demon for some brutal attacks.
There’s still no word on a release date for Nioh 2.
