The NHL is holding several regular season games in Finland this year to promote the league. I say league, because let’s face it, Finland is already well known for producing high-quality hockey players. As part of the NHL Global Series Helsinki, Patrik Laine of the Winnipeg Jets and Aleksander Barkov of the Florida Panthers teamed up with popular Finnish artists and influencers for an epic NHL 19 showdown.
It’s no secrets that NHL players often play NHL 19 and other games during their road trips and days off. So it should come as no surprise that the quality of play was quite good, especially because the NHL players had some skilled partners during the match. Laine was joined by Finnish Youtube star Arttu Lindeman and Ville Galle from the musical duo JVG, while Barkov recruited Finnish YouTube star Jaakko Parkkali and Jare Brand, also of JVG.
At the buzzer, “Team Laine” defeated “Team Barkov,” 7-6, powered by a late game-winning goal in the final minute of regulation.
Both players also posed alongside cutouts of their HUT cards, which are no doubt highly-prized on the NHL 19 marketplace these days.
