Apparently, PlayStation Network ID change is coming soon. One of the most anticipated features is reportedly about to drop, even though there’s an quite relevant catch for those of you who could be interested.

Insider Tidux has shared some fresh information on the topic, hinting at the possibility that the PSN is introducing the brand new functionality of the name change for its console users.

There’s a bad news, though:

“Good News! looks like PSN namechange is closing in! bad news? looks like you have to give up content prior to the PS4 if you wanna change you PSN name. Trophies, games and saves. i´m not 100 on the last point,” Tidux said.

So, the namechange is something you’ve been waiting for ages to happen on PlayStation Network but, from the looks of it, such opportunity could be coming with the loss of all the progress you have achieved on PS3 and PS Vita.

Backwards compatibility with PS3 has always been an issue because of the different architecture of the console, but it’s quite weird to hear that even something that could be handled on the cloud could possibly lead to an issue like this.

In another tweet issued later, Tidux added that “a better solution” is in the works and this was the status of the project last year, which is why it’s taking so long to make the news public. The PlayStation team has managed to obtain “some improvements” since then, although we don’t know to what extent.

Of course, we hope the namechange in the PSN ID is reality, but in the right way.
