There’s no stopping a good heist, or a better web-swing.
The PlayStation brand is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Sony has some special events in mind to commemorate the occasion, and others are marking it their own way.
Mat Piscatella, who serves as the video game industry analyst for the National Purchase Diary, recently posted tweets about two top performers for the PlayStation brand — Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto V and Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man.
In Piscatella’s first tweet, he confirmed the highest dollar selling exclusive game on PlayStation platforms is none other than GTA V. No specific numbers came up, but the title spanned the PlayStation 3 and enhanced PlayStation 4 versions, which account for 115 million units sold.
Piscatella continued about Spider-Man in his next tweet, confirming it was the highest dollar selling title for PlayStation platforms. Again, there were no exact numbers.
For hardware, the PlayStation 2 “leads all PlayStation hardware in lifetime unit sales.” However, the PlayStation 4 is getting up there, reaching a particular sales milestone in itself.
He provided several other little details in his tweets, such as:
- The $20 PlayStation Store game card is the best-selling card in the company’s history.
- The black DualShock 4 controller is the highest-selling peripheral, though the DualShock 2 (from the PlayStation 2 era) sold the most units.
- The PlayStation 4 Gold Wireless Stereo Headset is the best selling headset/headphone peripheral for the brand.
- The PS2 Guitar Hero Wireless Controller is the highest-selling Dance/Music controller.
More information is available in this thread, but it’s clear that the PlayStation line is all about dominance. Congrats to Sony on 25 great years.
