Can you believe it’s been two years since Pokémon Go was released? Niantic is celebrating the second birthday of their global hit with an anniversary event beginning on July 6. The celebration lasts until July 31.

This year, players will have a chance to catch a special “Summer Style” Pikachu, wearing a beach-ready straw hat and sunglasses! “Summer Style” Pikachu should make for fast friends with the similarly shaded “Squirtle Squad” Squirtle, available next Pokemon Go Community Day on July 8.

Players will be able to take their love of the little electric mouse to new heights by decking themselves out in newly available Pikachu Fan Avatar items, including a brand new t-shirt, shorts, shoes, and a Pikachu ear headband! If you want to get your hands on this Pikachu swag you’ll have to obtain a gold Pikachu Fan medal, which requires catching a whopping 300 Pikachu.

Similar to last year’s birthday event, Pikachu will appear more frequently, which will make earning that medal more feasible. You’ll also have an increased chance to obtain Pichu from Eggs. Thankfully, you’ll have three and a half weeks to work on this, so you’d better bust out those Pokeballs!

Niantic have also confirmed that a new Special Research event will be starting soon, adding the Mythical Pokémon Celebi to the game. Celebi will be available to players globally, likely by completing missions similar to those necessary to obtain Mew. Hopefully more details will be available soon.
