The Pokémon Company debuted a new trailer for the upcoming Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee games today, which gave us our first taste of Mega Evolution, which will indeed be coming back for this new iteration.
We also got to take a look at Vermilion City, including a brief Gym Leader battle with Lt. Surge, as well as some of the most adorable iterations we’ve ever seen of Team Rocket’s Jessie and James.
Mega Charizard X and Y, Mega Blastoise, and Mega Venusaur are going to be available in-game to totally wreck your opponents, which should add an interesting new dimension to the familiar Pokémon games we grew up with. Interestingly enough, it appears that there aren’t any special items to get your Pokémon to hold such as Mega Stones this time around, or perhaps they’re utilized in a different way.
There certainly wasn’t any Mega Evolution to contend with back then, you just had to grind out levels until you felt you were strong enough to not get trounced by other trainers and Gym Leaders.
There’s also a brief look at how various Pokémon will look out in the world when you select them to follow you, such as Misty’s selection of water Pokémon: Staryu, Goldeen, Psyduck, and Poliwhirl. Absolutely adorable, that’s how they look. It probably isn’t especially healthy to keep your Goldeen out of water that long, though.
We don’t have too much longer to wait until we can try out the games for ourselves, as they’re scheduled to release as Nintendo Switch exclusives on Nov. 16.
