Pokémon Quest is a “free to start” game that offers microtransactions, including purchase of decorations and other gameplay-affecting items. Thankfully, you are completely free to play and enjoy Pokémon Quest without ever having to spend money. If you haven’t yet tried Pokémon Quest, we recommend checking out our super helpful beginner’s guide.
It’s important to note that the Nintendo Switch and mobile versions of the game are completely separate—your progress (and Pokémon) will not carry over from the Switch version. Additionally, any purchases made on the Nintendo Switch version will not be available on mobile. If you want access to the bonuses the store items provide (including increased item drops, experience gain, and more) in both versions of the game, be prepared to shell out that cash twice.
Pokémon Quest on mobile offers the exact same gameplay experience as the Switch version, so if you’ve already explored all of Tumblecube Island and are all Poké’d out, it may not be worth the download. While the paid Expedition Pack bundles offered in the Poké Shop are the same as those found in the Switch version, Nintendo have also added a mobile-exclusive, paid Mini Expedition Pack, which is available for 72 hours after first accessing the shop. The bundle costs $2.99 and includes the Pikachu Surfboard decoration, along with a Pikachu that knows the move Surf.
