Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia is set to bring the Total War series back to more realistic, and historic, times. Despite the last two major games in the series being set in the wicked world of Warhammer, the new Total War Saga series aims to once again throw us into a contentious period of history. Thrones of Britannia will be largely set in and around 878 AD, with the embattled English king Alfred the Great defending his homeland against Viking invaders.
Thrones of Britannia is a standalone Total War game which will challenge you to re-write a critical moment in history, one that will come to define the future of modern Britain. With ten playable factions, you must build and defend a kingdom to the glory of Anglo-Saxons, Gaelic clans, Welsh tribes or Viking settlers. Forge alliances, manage burgeoning settlements, raise armies and embark on campaigns of conquest across the most detailed Total War map to date.
I’m very excited about this one, as my native Ireland is included. I have always wondered what would happen if an Irish army attempted to take over the world, and now I get to find out. I can’t imagine it going very well, but that never stopped me doing something before. I’ll be picking up the game on launch day and will have a review for you all as soon as possible. For those who have already purchased the game, pre-loading is now an option on Steam.
Thrones of Britannia will launch on May 3, so only a couple of days away. It will also be availabe for Mac OS and Linux shortly after its Windows release.
