Radical Heights is Boss Key Production’s newest entrant to the Battle Royale genre. The Cliff Bleszinski led studio had hoped to bring back the arcade shooter with Lawbreakers, but recently announced it would be moving on from that project to focus on their 80’s themed BR game instead. The game is available as a Free to Play, Early Access title on Steam now. I haven’t played it yet, but have been watching some streams of it, and it certainly looks like a Battle Royale game. You run around, find guns, and shoot people, but it also has a few twists of its own.

Bleszinski revealed the female character models, and some outfits, on Twitter over the weekend. The outfits certainly lean into the 80’s theme, with the weirdly futuristic style that fitness wear adopted in that decadent decade. Despite not being hugely into the genre, I am still very curious to see how this one goes. PUBG was really the first battle royale game that seemed to be able to make it all work, while Fortnite has a unique building feature that sets it apart. With the 80’s theme being apparent, I would like to see Radical Heights just go full on cheesy action. Hell, I think it should ignore fall damage so that you can do amazing jumping gun fights off the roofs of buildings. But what do I know? I’m just a guy who writes about videogames, not a guy who writes videogames.

The 80’s are all the rage right now, with shows like Stranger Things, sounds like Outrun and Synthwave, and films like Ready Player One (which is basically an 80’s movie masquerading as a modern one), so it is entirely possible that Boss Key Productions might be on to something here. Or, the game might crash and burn like an out of control Delorean smashing into a giant bust of Boy George. No matter what happens, we will do our very best to keep you up to date.
