In a recent interview, Rockstar Games’ art director Josh Bass has confirmed we’ll only be playing as a single character in Red Dead Redemption 2, and that character is Arthur Morgan.

“Sticking with a single character felt more appropriate for the structure and narrative of a western,” Bass said, underlining the difference between the latest open world game and the much appreciated Grand Theft Auto V.

Interestingly, you might remember that at a certain point in the original game you play as another character, whose identity we won’t spoil here, so there’s still a chance something similar happens in Red Dead Redemption 2 as well.

“Arthur lives with and fights alongside the other members of the Van der Linde gang, and they are a group of fully realized characters with relationships to each other and to Arthur, but this is Arthur’s story and we are placing players firmly in Arthur’s boots as he and the gang deal with a rapidly changing world.

We think people will really love the feeling of being in the gang. It isn’t like anything we’ve done before.”

Red Dead Redemption 2 is releasing October 26, 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One.
