It seems like Marvel and Sony planned to release Spider-Man on PlayStation 4 in October 2018, but Red Dead Redemption 2 spoil the party.
Insomniac Games and Marvel both have confirmed at multiple occasion that the upcoming Spider-Man game for PlayStation 4 will release in 2018, however, both firms have maintained their silence when asked to reveal at least the month of the release. Recently, a Marvel Employee named Stephen Wacker seems to have revealed the release month for Spider-Man that was internally decided.
Let’s take a look at what exactly Stephen Wacker said: “If the Spider-Man game and Red Dead come out near each other, I’m pretty sure I’m going to lose my job.”
Recently, Rockstar Games announced another release delay for Red Dead Redemption 2, it was scheduled to launch in Spring 2018, but will not arrive on October 26. Was that tweet from Stephen a suggestion that behind the closed doors at Insomniac and Marvel – October 2018 release date was planned, but now they are back to the drawing board as Rockstar Games have booked October 26 for Red Dead Redemption 2 and they don’t want to have a direct competition with such a big game?

This indeed should be the logical move from Insomniac Games if October 2018 release window for planned for Spider-Man. Marvel and Sony should now look for a new release window – as I think Summer or Mid-Summer is going to suit them because God of War is scheduled to launch in April 2018 and the next movie in Avengers series “Infinity War” is scheduled for May 2018 release – it would be a good marketing move from Marvel as the hype surrounding the move is massive and Spider-Man is a part of the movie, the Spider-Man character will be fresh in the minds of many people.
