Both Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2 have outsold their Wii U versions, information from Nintendo’s sales data reveals.

At the company’s investors relations information page, Nintendo lists Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as selling 9.22 million units as of March 31. The Switch title’s prior release, Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U, only made 8.42 million sales. Meanwhile, Splatoon 2 has sold just over six million units, whereas the original Splatoon made just 4.93 million sales.

That suggests the Nintendo Switch isn’t just more popular with gamers than the Wii U, but that Nintendo’s Wii U hits are also seeing an extended shelf life thanks to their re-releases.

As of March 31, Super Mario Odyssey remains the best-selling Nintendo Switch game to date worldwide, with 10.41 million units sold for the console. In comparison, the Wii U’s best-selling title, Mario Kart 8, sold nearly two million units less. Plus, Odyssey has been out for merely half a year, implying that the game remains incredibly popular among Switch owners.

However, while Nintendo’s Switch games continue to show impressive sales, the hybrid console has a long way to go before it rivals such Nintendo giants as the Nintendo 3DS and the Wii. Nintendo’s best-selling title for the 3DS, Mario Kart 7, sold over 17 million units. The Wii demonstrated even greater success, with Wii Sports accumulating 82.85 million sales and Mario Kart Wii bringing in just over 37 million.

The Switch could end up topping those sales numbers, but for now, there’s no magic bullet. Fans will just have to wait and see how the Switch’s hottest titles perform over the next few holiday seasons.
