The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is the newest game set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s universe, and is coming 2021 from Daedalic Entertainment.
The German developer is working on an action adventure game following the years of Gollum after he acquired the One Ring, but before the events of the novels and movies.
“You already have that big conflict in the character, two voices talking to you continuously, which means there is a good reason there are decisions to make in the game: the Smeagol decisions or the Gollum decision,” Carsten Fichtelmann, CEO and co-founder of Daedalic Entertainment, told The Hollywood Reporter.
“We have the story that we all know from the book, but everything that happens to him before he appears in the book are the main things we will see in our game. We will tell the story before he first appears in the books.”
The game will be released in 2021 for PC and “all relevant console platforms at that time,” meaning it could be aiming for the next generation.
Gollum is set to be the first title in the partnership between Daedalic and Middle-earth, as plans for further games are already “in the works.”
