The creative director behind the Borderlands 3 video game believes they have the perfect person in mind to portray Claptrap in the eventual Borderlands movie
Who’s the best individual to portray the most talkative robot ever to grace video games? Paul Sage, Borderlands 3’s creative director, thinks the Rock should voice Claptrap for the Borderlands movie, which remains a thing.
While there are limited details about the movie’s status at this time, Sage is 100 percent supporting the idea of having Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the helper robot. The Rock would likely have to heighten his voice to extreme lengths to correctly assume the role. They could alter his voice following his dialogue to make it an authentic performance.
“Who could play Claptrap?” Sage said. “Our audio guys would tell you, ‘Hey, we can make anybody Claptrap! I think The Rock. Yeah, The Rock has to play Claptrap!”
There’s no legitimate signature on the contract right now, but it’s a fun idea. Given how much the audio team could alter a person’s voice to match the high-pitched, screaming squeaks of the rolling robot, they could have fun with the idea. By attaching a big name to the project, they could give it some much-needed steam, since we haven’t learned much about it for a great deal of time.
The Borderlands movie is getting produced by Avi and Ari Arad. These pair are also serving as producers for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid and Uncharted Movies. Of the three video game movies, they’ve attached their names to, Uncharted has achieved the most progress with an actual release date of Dec. 18, 2020, with Tom Holland taking up the role of Nathan Drake.
Based on Borderlands 3’s success, we may see some additional steam added to the Borderlands movie train. For now, we’re left to speculate on what could happen in the future for the quirky franchise.
While the movie does not have any traction, Borderlands 3 is right around the corner. It releases for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Epic Games Store on Sept. 13.
