Ubisoft has announced a remake of The Settlers series with a brand new title and a History Collection containing updated versions of older titles.
Forced to leave their homelands after a devastating earthquake of mysterious origins, the Settlers set sail towards the unknown in the hopes of finding a new home. Not only will they face countless new challenges, but they will also become part of an ancient mystery that will change their lives forever. It’s been 25 years since the release of the original The Settlers game by Blue Byte software, and I still remember everything about it. From the chunky beige monitors to the diskettes required to load the game, it all came back to me when Ubisoft announced that The Settlers is coming back.
The Settlers 2019
At Gamescom, where all the exciting news is coming from this week, Ubisoft announced that The Settlers would be returning in the fall of 2019. The announcement trailer shows off the beautifully rendered citizens and villages you’ll soon be ruling over. Graphically, The Settlers retains the iconic and whimsical design of the original, while the Snowdrop engine, famous for its use in The Division and the upcoming The Division 2, gives everything a modern touch.

I’m not exaggerating when I say that The Settlers has immediately become one of my most anticipated titles of 2019.
The Settlers History Collection
Even though The Settlers won’t be out for another year, there’s no need to fret. Ubisoft is releasing a The Settlers History Collection on November 15th of this year. It will include updated versions of The Settlers 1 through 7. Modernized features and better support for today’s hardware will be available when the collection releases on Uplay.
Revisiting the entire series via the History Collection should provide hours and hours of entertainment while we wait for the release of The Settlers sometime in the fall of 2019. This writer is looking forward to revisiting some fond childhood memories this winter.
