Two Point Hospital, the hospital management simulator from some of the developers behind cult classic Theme Hospital, now has a release date.
The game comes out on Aug. 30 on Steam, just seven months after it was announced.
Bullfrog Productions released Theme Hospital in 1997 following the success of their 1994 DOS classic Theme Park. Subsequent titles like Theme Aquarium and Theme Park World attempted to continue the legacy, but the studio was subsumed by parent company Electronic Arts in 2001, putting an end to the series.
The dream of a new Theme Hospital didn’t die for fans of the game. Or the developers who worked on it.
Mark Webley and Gary Carr, who worked at Bullfrog, along with former Lionhead Studios employee Ben Hymers formed Two Points Studios in 2016. They immediately got to work trying to revive the feel of the original Theme games.
While other hospital simulators have come and gone over the two decades since Theme Hospital, none have captured what made it popular—the humor. Theme Hospital is an undeniably funny game, and Two Point Hospital appears to have all those key trademarks. Things like the loud speaker announcer voice sound uncannily similar.
It’s not a remaster or a re-skin, Two Point Hospital is a brand new game, and fans can’t wait. In a first for the series, Two Point Hospital will be published by Sega, who have been finding their return to the mid-90s incredibly successful.
The game is available for 10 percent off if pre-ordered on Steam.
