NeocoreGames, the studio behind Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr, has announced that the game will be delayed until June 5. In a blog post on Steam, the game’s producer spoke of the change in release date, and some of the reasons behind it.

The reason is simple, really. Some technical issues were solved a bit late on one of the console platforms, therefore the release candidate version couldn’t be sent to manufacturing in time. We’d like to release the game – in agreement with our console publisher Bigben Interactive and our licensor Games Workshop – on all three platforms at the same time. In a nutshell: we have somewhat overestimated our capacity for releasing the game simultaneously on three platforms.

A very open and honest reason for needing to delay the release. They have advised that there will be a large update coming for people who are in the beta test, scheduled for May 21. For those not in the know, Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr is an isometric action RPG set in the Warhammer 40k universe. As the name implies, you will be playing the role of an Inquistor taking on the forces of Chaos.

Delays to a game’s release are certainly not the end of the world, for most sensible gamers, but the devs have promised to work 90-hour weeks in the three week run up to release. Now, while such grand gestures are nice in theory, getting what is sure to be an already tired dev team to crunch like that is not the best move in the world. Workload is already a hot topic in the industry, without a developer making it seem like some sort of penance for a delay. It is very heartwarming to see the many comments on Steam asking the dev team to not push themselves in this way.

Update: Neocore Community Manager megapull commented that the 90-hour work week reference was merely meant as a joke, stating “We won’t do 90 hour weeks – it was meant as a joke, and I have removed it from the original post already. The wording was off and misleading – we are treated more than well at NeocoreGames.”

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr will release June 5 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
