It is the season of the Assault Rifle in Destiny 2 at the moment. Recent buffs and changes have made Assault Rifles quite powerful in PvP, and a pretty solid option in PvE as well. In this article, we will run through some of the more interesting options available to you in the game right now.
Hard Light
The Hard Light is easily the standout Assault Rifle right now, for one simple reason. The Hard Light doesn’t suffer from damage dropoff the way other Assault Rifles do, meaning you can do some pretty crazy damage at long range, as long as your aim is up to the task. It also boasts Ricochet Rounds, sowing a nice seed of panic in the enemy team as all those rounds bounce around corridors.

Tommy’s Matchbook
The Seasonal Exotic for the Season of the Worthy, Tommy’s matchbook balances risk and reward by doing increase damage as long as you are happy to be set on fire. That is not a joke, as the weapon will inflict damage on the user after a certain length of time, but this only serves to increase the damage it does to other targets. Risky business in PvP, but a whole lot of fun in PvE.

Seventh Seraph Carbine
The Seventh Seraph Carbine is available as a Bounty from the Sepraph Bunker on the EDZ. It can roll with Fourth Time’s the Charm, and Elemental Capacitor, giving it a ridiculous “uptime” compared to other Assault Rifles. A fantastic PvE weapon, it offers ridiculously high DPS if you can keep proccing the Fourth Time’s the Charm perk.

Breakneck
Originally introduced during the Season of the Forge, this Legendary Assault Rifle is a Gambit Pinnacle weapon, so you’ll need to spend some time playing in the Drifter’s games to get it. The Onslaught perk means that the rate of fire will increase as you stack up Rampage, meaning you can blitz down most targets as long as you take out some smaller enemies first.

Suros Regime
The Suros Regime exotic seems to be a popular option for those who haven’t been blessed with a Hard Light yet. The Spinning Up perk means that the longer you hold the trigger, the faster it fires, making it an incredible option for taking on multiple targets, as the TTK will drop considerably by the time you start working over your second Guardian in a row. A solid PvP option, but not quite up to the level of the Hard Light.
