How to get Plant Species Y seeds in Ark: Survival Evolved

They're weird but useful.

In Ark: Survival Evolved there are many different resources that you’ll need to build a thriving base. Between the endless early phases of trying to chop enough wood, and gather enough fiber to build your structures as needed. While some resources are simple to identify and find, there are a few that are harder to come by. Particularly those that aren’t as obvious as a tree standing out in the woods might be. In this guide, we’ll explain how to get Plant Species Y seeds in Ark: Survival Evolved.

What are Plant Species Y and why do you need them in Ark: Survival Evolved

Plant Species Y is not exactly the kind of plant that you’ll generally think of as being particularly useful at first glance. These plants are quite unassuming, if very odd looking. They were first introduced to Ark: Survival Evolved in the Scorched Earth DLC, which features massive desert biomes and very little water and greenery.

The Plant Species Y is, however, one of the best plants you can get if you’re playing PvP or PvE maps in Ark: Survival Evolved. For players on PvP servers, the Plant Species Y seeds, which are somewhat suspicious looking are miniature traps. Placing them in your Hotbar, and then placing them around the fringes of your base like you would any structure lays them as a trap. Players walking over the hidden plants will become ensnared by the plants until freed, much like the Net Projectile.

If you’re using Plant Species Y on a PvE server, you can feed them to your Gacha. The Gacha produces resources based on what you’ve selected for their production type. The Plant Species Y is a very low-effort resource to feed the Gacha as it will continually produce seeds you can feed the Gacha.

While originally found on the Scorched Earth map, you can find Plant Species Y on most of the maps on Ark: Survival. These are the maps you can find them on:

  • Scorched Earth
  • Ragnarok
  • Extinction
  • Valguero
  • Genesis Part: 1
  • Genesis Part: 2
  • Fjordur

The Plant Species Y seeds will take different forms based on the map you’ll find them on. They can be found in the spiky pink and white flowers from Scorched Earth, in the bright purple plants known for their silk content, and even as unique plants on Scorched Earth. On the Fjordur map, they’ll be hidden in pink coral plants which you can harvest with a Moschops for greater returns.
