With God of War releasing on April 20 and the hype mounting day after day, we were wondering what our readers and viewers might still not know about the game. And we’ll admit it – we had a hard time finding stuff which could be interesting enough and that you hadn’t already learned by reading all those interviews creative director Cory Barlog released before launch.

Anyway, we’re quite sure that you won’t know at least a couple things in this video, and that knowing them will make you enjoy even more the title once you can finally start it in a matter of very, very few hours. So let’s get this started, and don’t forget to let us know what you think about the video, in the end, thanks to the comments section below.

God of War (PS4) Facts That You Don't Know

God of War (2018) Facts That You Don’t Know

1: GOD OF WAR IS THE HIGHEST RATED PS4 EXCLUSIVE

Wow. God of War isn’t even out, and we can already learn it is, according to the critics, the best game ever released only on PlayStation 4. In fact, it has achieved an average score of 95/100, which means that among all the titles ever launched on PS4 it is second ||| only to Grand Theft Auto V, also available on PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC, and has the same average score of The Last of Us Remastered, which originally launched on PS3.

If you put things into the right perspective, you’ll see how much this game is going to be good, as GTA V and The Last of Us were the two most defining video games in the last generation of consoles. So, is the PS4 exclusive going to be the most defining game of this generation?

2: ATREUS WAS ALMOST CUT IN EARLY DEVELOPMENT

One of the things Barlog has revealed during his most recent interviews is that he really had to push Sony and Santa Monica Studio to approve the concept of Atreus having such an important role in the game.

Making him as he actually is was indeed very expensive and ambitious, and apparently, everyone at the studio was trying to convince Barlog to find some other creative solution to tell his story.

In order to make the publisher approve the idea behind Atreus, the creative director said he would have pitched an alternative in the style of All Is Lost, the movie with Robert Redford where the protagonist almost doesn’t say a word.

“It’s gonna be one character who talks to himself occasionally, but generally, it will be very silent and everyone will talk in old Norse, so that you won’t understand anything anybody’s saying”, Barlog recalls hinting at Sony, which in the end gave up and accepted the Atreus we know today.

3: THERE WON’T BE ANY SEASON PASS

Considering how much more open the game is in comparison with the previous God of War titles, it was quite disappointing to learn that there isn’t any season pass planned for the upcoming PS4 exclusive back in January. Differently from the other Sony first party production Horizon: Zero Dawn, there isn’t apparently any story based DLC releasing at some point after the April 20 launch.

More recently, Barlog further explained his position on this matter, explaining that “I have always had this over-delivery complex. I keep obsessively adding things, making the game bigger and better, because I can’t leave anything on the table. I want to give the whole experience. You’ll pay $60? You’ll get everything I can possibly give.” That’s a good point, we must say.

4: GOD OF WAR’S ONE-SHOT CAMERA WAS ORIGINALLY PITCHED FOR TOMB RAIDER’S REBOOT

After leaving Santa Monica Studio in 2010, Cory Barlog had a quick experience at Avalanche Studios, the makers of the Just Cause series, where he worked with George Miller on a Mad Max game that was later canceled. Then, he joined Crystal Dynamics in 2012 to direct Tomb Raider’s reboot cinematics but left the company only one year later. In a recent interview, he explained why.

God of War is featuring a one-shot camera technique, which offers the game without any single interruption nor change of camera throughout the entire experience. Back in the days, he pitched this idea to Crystal Dynamics and that was refused.

“I was sticking to my guns well before I even got back to Sony,” Barlog told Daily Star at a press event. “I wanted to do this [one-shot camera technique] and I had pitched it to Crystal Dynamics when I was there working on Tomb Raider and everyone was like, ‘that’s crazy, we don’t want to do that’.”

“And, my reaction was like, ‘yeah, you know, I don’t know if this is the best place for me anyway’. I was already starting to talk to people about new roles at Sony and then I think I realised this [God of War] is the one I can do it on.”

5: WHAT THE CREATOR OF THE ORIGINAL GOD OF WAR THINKS OF THE GAME

The creator of the God of War series David Jaffe recently told a follower on Twitter what he thinks of the latest game in the franchise, and he had really the kind word for Barlog and his team over at Santa Monica Studio.

He says he was “quite happy!” and “proud” of Cory “and the team and so excited for what this success means for Kratos and the franchise! Plus it means I get a new great game to play:)!”

Barlog replied that “None of us would even be talking about God of War if not for David Jaffe’s original vision. There is much in my career that I owe to Dave actually letting me be a part of this amazing character and the world he created!”

Finally, Jaffe said “I appreciate that but we all built the world together! So happy Kratos is in your hands now- can’t wait to play the adventures you guys take him on! Good luck this week with the launch!.” Which is the same we at Gamepur wish the game?
