The two versions would feature one premium model for hardcore gamers and another, cheaper, tailored for families with kids.
“One version will have enhanced features targeted at avid videogamers, although it won’t be as powerful as Sony Corp.’s PlayStation 4 Pro or Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox One X, according to parts suppliers and software developers for Nintendo who have early access to a prototype of the machine,” says WSJ.
“The other version is a cheaper option for casual gamers that Nintendo sees as a successor to its aging hand-held 3DS device, the suppliers and developers say.”
We’ve been reported about the latter model earlier last year, but the news here is that there is also a ‘pro’ model of the Switch on the way.
It’s apparently not as powerful as mid-gen consoles but at least it looks like it’s getting closer to the base models, and from the looks of it, it could be aiming 1080p gaming.
One thing we’d be curious to learn about is whether this model would be raising the resolution in handled gaming, too, by raising the resolution of the handheld device itself.
Anyway, it seems like we’ll learn more very soon since the launch is reportedly fixed for this summer, which happens to be in around three months – just in time for E3.
