We’ve been hearing about video games movies news for year but almost never we saw some true progress about their development. Now things are apparently going to change, since the one about Uncharted is seemingly coming together soon.
In an interview with The Playlist, director Shawn Levy has explained that the film is “close to the starting line,” which means the proper shooting is about to finally kick off once the final stage in the preparation gets completed.
“The closest to the starting line is Uncharted in that it’s a massive title. We now have a very good script and we have our star in Tom Holland. That is now subject to schedule and additional casting,” Levy said.
“But I would say as of right now, that seems to be the most near [the] horizon. And it’s a movie I’m very excited about,” he added. Among his previous experiences we can find Netflix’s Stranger Things.
The Uncharted movie was originally announced in 2009 and was set to feature Mark Wahlberg as Nathan Drake. It was meant to be a contemporary story where Drake is already the Drake we’ve learned to know in the video games.
Then, in 2015, things changed and the current script for a prequel was built with protagonist being Spider-Man: The Homecoming’s Tom Holland. That was apparently the right call as the movie is seeing the “starting line” as said.
Curiously enough, an Uncharted fan movie was very recently dropped on the net with Nathan Drake being played by Nathan Fillion – a huge fan of the saga. There’s hope it can lead to something else in the future, but that’s not connected to the movie now.
The latest game in the franchise was Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, although it wasn’t starring the series’ protagonist Nate. He starred in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, which was the final chapter in his journey.
