Despite releasing on April 16, 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 is still figuring out many of the things that it will put on offer to players once it ships for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Google Stadia. Among the most significant doubts, we still have a new game plus and multiplayer modes.

As for the multiplayer, CD Projekt RED is still “doing R&D,” which means they’re letting a small internal team to work on that feature and they’ll get to understand how it’ll be coherently with the core experience which remains the single-player. From the looks of it, whatever it is, multiplayer is not coming before 2021.

“We are doing R&D into multiplayer, but we’re focusing on the single-player experience, and that’s what you’ll get in 2020,” senior concept artist Marthe Jonkers told Eurogamer. “It doesn’t mean we’re saying no multiplayer, but it doesn’t mean we’re saying yes either. It’s still an R&D phase.”

Interestingly, new game plus, which concerns single-player of course, could be easier to implement in time for launch, but that’s still something the Polish studio has yet to look into, as confirmed by producer Richard Borzymowski at GameSpot.

“What I can tell you is we are looking into a suitable idea for implementing New Game Plus,” he said. “If and how has yet to be seen and talked about. (…) We’re looking for a way to ensure that you’re able to keep your progression, but are you still able to take a different path in order to see one of those parts that was hidden behind one of those actual choices.”

It’s weird that the producer still claims that it’s “too early” to further reveal the new game plus mode, despite being eight months from the release next April. Hopefully, those doubts will be cleared in time for Cyberpunk 2077 launch on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia.
